Jill Scott (n e Joyce Scott) was born to her mother on the 4th April in 1972. Jill Scott was raised by both her grandmother and mother. Scott is an all-only child. Scott attended Philadelphia High School for Girls. After the completion of her studies, Scott enrolled into Temple University. She completed her secondary education there while working two jobs. She hoped to be a high school English teacher. The dream of becoming an English teacher at high school was cut short after she dropped out of school. As a poet She began to sing in live poetry recitals. Then she joined with Amir Quest Thompson (of The Roots) to form a group. They wrote You Got Me together. Through a Roots performance, she announced herself as an artist. In the following years, she managed to negotiate collaborations with people like Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. In addition, she had the opportunity to gain experience in the performing arts during the tour that Broadway's musical Rent. She was the first signing artist to label Hidden Beach Recordings label.
